Anoasis Resort Hotel
Our brief comments:
The Anoasis is a secluded privately owned luxury resort under French management about 44km from Vung Tau and 125km from Ho Chi Minh City.
Originally one of Emperor Bao Dai’s summer palaces, the resort consists of 46 villas/bungalow rooms on the side of a hill overlooking a long private beach and the South China Sea. The site area is 13ha. It doesn't have an official 'star' rating - we rate it at First Class standard.
The villas vary considerably. Room decor, fixtures and fittings were designed by the proprietors. Walls are rendered brick painted white, and all floors and terraces are terra cotta. The bathrooms are distinctive and particularly well designed. Fixtures and fittings are high quality, attractive and differ according to room category.
The Bamboo Cottages are older than the other rooms. They have wooden beams under a thatched roof, a bamboo balcony, and an ethnic ambiance. The furniture is bamboo in a rustic design. Each contains a double and a single bed.
Family Bungalows are a similar standard with an extra bedroom – they come in three sizes, Junior, Senior and Deluxe. The Deluxe has a terrace, the others have balconies.
Pavilion Rooms (sometimes called ‘Suites’ despite a combined living/bed room) have the same area and price as the Cottage Bungalows, but have tiled roofs, stylish decor, a terrace and a patio/garden. The ‘living room area’ has a good quality convertible double sofa, making it good value for families.
The Ocean View Villas are the resort’s top-of-the range accommodation. It has two bedrooms, a kitchenette, and a large terrace with an outdoor Jacuzzi and a completely secluded garden. As the name suggests, there is an excellent sea view.
The large swimming pool (max. 2m deep) has a wide surround, and there is a large paved area for sunbathing. There is a bar alongside and a beach pavilion for barbeques.
The private beach of soft golden sand slopes gently into the sea, backed by an area of dunes and scrub to the south of the resort.
Beside the pool there is an ‘Entertainments’ area. Facilities include volleyball, badminton, table tennis, petanque, open-air massage, and so on.
Elsewhere, there are two floodlit tennis courts. Bicycles are available free of charge. There is an ‘AAA’ rated links-style golf course near Vung Tau, about an hour’s drive from the resort.
The indoor and covered terrace restaurants are next to each other and offer a varied selection of Asian and international cuisine prepared under the direction of a French chef, and a comprehensive wine list.
The resort offers a small selection of excursions payable locally.
The Anoasis is a singular hotel, idiosyncratically conceived and created by its French owner and his wife. We recommend it to visitors seeking a relaxing honeymoon or luxury holiday in a secluded beach resort far removed from the international chain establishments.
