Victoria Can Tho Hotel****
Our brief comments:
The elegant French-Colonial style Victoria Can Tho is arguably the most attractive of the five Victoria hotels currently operating in Vietnam. A classic avenue symmetrically fringed with tall palms frames the hotel entrance. Add the graceful facade, polished wood floors, wooden glazed-panel French windows, period overhead fans and a host of other details, and the effect is that of a large plantation house.
Apart from the impression of stepping back to the days of opulent colonialism, the rooms are comfortable with all the facilities of a modern hotel.
Each room has a balcony - 36 of Deluxe rooms and the all the Suites have direct views of the Hau River. The remaining Deluxe rooms and the Superior rooms have partial river views, or overlook the lush tropical gardens in front of the hotel.
The main 'Spices' restaurant looks out across the river, and offers casual all-day dining combining Vietnamese and European cuisines. The open-air Cuu Long Bar provides cocktails and other drinks, light snacks and a variety of board games and similar pastimes. Unusually, the poolside bar bar offers fresh fruit and vegetable juices.
The hotel also operates a sunset cruise on the Hau River through the countryside around Can Tho.
There's also a selection of recreational activities from which to choose. Although there's no fitness centre, a sauna and massage facilities are available.
The hotel is ideally located in the centre of the Mekong Delta with easy access to the myriad canals, fruit farms, floating markets, wildlife reserves and its remarkable water-bound culture.
Apart from a 4hr road journey, a hydrofoil link carries travellers from Saigon to Can Tho city's jetty taking about the same time. For those who want the most convenient means of travel, the Victoria's private 11-seat speedboat and jetty are available. The journey takes approximately 3½hrs, and the cost varies according to the number of passengers.
Feedback from our customers who have visited the Victoria Can Tho is almost always complimentary. The ambiance and friendly service are often singled out for praise.
