Windsor Plaza Hotel*****

Our brief comments:
The Windsor Plaza is a new hotel with 405 rooms on 25 floors, the bottom seven of which are given up to a 1,500-unit shopping mall and conference centre. It's located in Ho Chi Minh City's District 5, near Cholon, better known as 'Chinatown'.

The main tourist area in District 1 is about 7km from the hotel - about fifteen minutes by taxi on an average day. A complimentary shuttle bus to District 1 leaves and returns every 30 minutes.

Shopping and hotel floors are separate - the arrangement means that all guest rooms have good views even on the lowest hotel floor. Apart from the categories listed below, the hotel has two Presidential Suites, one Asian, the other international.

Rooms are above average size and are well-equipped. Apart from the lowest category, all rooms have a separate 'standing' shower in addition to the standard bath and shower arrangement. Broadband is available throughout, but at additional cost.

Executive floor benefits include a breakfast buffet, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails and canapés.

Junior Suites have connecting doors to another bedroom with its own private bathroom - useful for families trying to keep costs down.

There are two main restaurants, the international 'Café Central An Dong' that seats five hundred diners and the upmarket 'Ngan Dinh' Chinese restaurant.

The ritzy 'Top of the Town' restaurant on the 25th floor serves steaks and seafood, and boasts an extensive wine list. There's also a 'nightclub' in the centre of the complex providing regular live music performances.

The health centre is on the 24th floor, and has a good range of equipment and facilities. The roof-top pool is small, but has a decent bar.

The presence of a Karaoke bar and more than sixty massage rooms suggests that the Windsor expects a sizeable influx of Asian customers.

Prices are competitive, and guests can claim a 10% discount for the other restaurants in the Windsor chain.

Together with the District 1 shuttle bus service, and a free airport pick-up and return (we deduct the cost from our tour prices if you travel with Haivenu), the Windsor Plaza offers good value for money.
