Novotel Garden Plaza Hotel****
Our brief comments:
Located on the main road to ho Chi Minh City close to the airport, the high-rise Novotel Garden Plaza is a member of the Accor chain of hotels. Its principal drawback is its distance from the city centre - about a 20-minute taxi drive at a good time, and longer in the rush hour.
However, the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to and from District 1, the main shopping and tourist area, and taxis are cheap and plentiful, so the inconvenience isn't too much of a problem.
Apart from the distance to the city, the Novotel has much to comment it to visitors. It's well-managed and stylish, and rooms are comfortable - double glazing reduces the noise of heavy traffic to almost total silence, ensuring a good night's sleep.
The Orchid Club Executive floors provide a range of benefits outlined below.
A pleasant and unusual feature of the Novotel a reception, lobby and restaurant area that opens on to a terrace and a good swimming pool surrounded by palms and tropical plants. Although it's far from the vistas offered by beach resorts, it makes the hotel feel airy, spacious and fresh.
The single 'Garden Restaurant' offers Asian and Western cuisines and spreads across the rear of the lobby, so there is plenty of space for diners inside or on the terrace. Both food and service are above average.
The 'Lobby Lounge' provides drinks, cocktails, snacks and ice-cream. There's also a well-equipped gym and health centre.
If you're not put off by a short drive to the city, the Novotel Garden Plaza is well worth consideration - it also means you don't have to plough through Ho Chi Minh City's notorious rush hour to catch your flight!
