Legend Hotel*****
Our brief comments: 
The 17-storey Legend overlooks the Saigon River, within reasonable walking distance from Dong Khoi Street, the Opera House, and the other attractions of District 1, the main commercial and tourist area of Ho Chi Minh City. Externally, the architecture is uninspiring, but the lobby and reception area is impressively grand with liberal use of marble.
Overall, the hotel has a somewhat austere aura - formal rather than cosy, efficient rather than sociable.
All the non-suite rooms are the same size, differentiated by view and facilities. They're well equipped with modern furniture including easy chairs, an occasional table and writing desk. The colour scheme is soothing, but bland. 
Four floors are designated as 'Executive' accommodation - 32 Deluxe rooms, 28 Deluxe Riverside and the 11 suites. Benefits include express check in and out, and personalised service.
Executive customers also have access to an exclusive Lounge providing breakfast, all-day refreshments, evening cocktails and a selection of international newspapers and magazines.
The hotel's food and beverage outlets lean towards the Orient - the Chinese 'Crystal Jade Palace' and the 'Honzen Japonaise Cuisine' are the main restaurants.
The Atrium Cafe serves snacks, light meals and beverages from 6am to midnight. There's also an evening Poolside Restaurant specialising in barbequed meals.
The 21m swimming pool is supplemented by a jacuzzi and pool bar. The fitness centre has a good selection of up-to-date fitness equipment, sauna and steam room, and the ubiquitous massage services.
Feedback and customer comments are mixed - some really appreciate the Legend's middle-of-the-road reliability and its minimal distance from the main tourist centre, while other find it too vapid for their liking.
