Sailing Club****
Our brief comments:
The Mui Ne Sailing Club is an offspring of the better-known Nha Trang Sailing Club. Although it hasn't got much to do with sailing, it's certainly worth much more than a passing glance.
The reception lobby is a delight. The beams supporting the thatched roof are exposed to view, and complemented by rich terra-cotta floor tiles with ceramic inlays.
Two imposing lacquer artworks hang above the entrance and exit doors. Opposite the reception desk is a good quality gift and clothes outlet.
Outside, four rectangular lily ponds mark each side of the doorways.
The Sapa rooms are named after the attractive ethnic minority craft work from the Northern Mountains used for decoration. The upper rooms are comfortable and spacious with terra-cotta floors and open roof voids.
Externally, a balcony with rattan furniture runs the length of the building. At present, the six rooms on the ground floor have no air-conditioning - we were told that they would be upgraded soon.
Bungalows are larger with a high roof void and exposed beams. The decor is very attractive, there's a good shower cubicle in the bathroom and the bamboo furniture is good quality.
The Deluxe Bungalows have splendid bedrooms, also with an open thatched roof void. In the bathroom, a window looks out into a small private garden adjacent to the bath. The colour scheme is very good throughout.
The resort's pool is smaller than average, but very inviting with clear views of the sea. It's overlooked by the two-storey restaurant which doubles as a pool bar and comfortable lounge.
It's a pleasing building with dining upstairs and a bar area at pool level. The furniture upstairs is a combination of wooden tables with close-weave rattan chairs.
The Sailing Club's 'Jasmine Spa' has a lot to offer. An extensive 'menu' of treatments and therapies include varieties of massage, facials, waxing and body treatments. It also offers four sensibly-priced 'package' treatments.
We were impressed by Sailing Club's obvious quality. The staff members seemed friendly and efficient, and the resort appeared to be well-managed. Feedback from our customers will determine whether our optimism is justified.
Inspected June 2005
