Saigon Mui Ne Hotel****
Our brief comments:
The Saigon Muine offers villa accommodation on the beach. Its spacious 3.8ha (9.4 acres) garden is one of the best in Mui Ne with palms and an attractive stream winding its way through the tropical plants and trees.
The garden receives much careful attention, and borders on being regimented - the expansive green lawns are trimmed to bowling green standard, the walkways are neatly paved and the coconut trees stand to attention. Fortunately, ornamental arches and bowers support anarchic 'paper flower' bushes, a riot of pink, white, purple and gold.
The rooms and bungalows lead down to the beach. Superior and deluxe rooms are located in low-rise blocks and are small, but Deluxe rooms benefit from an 8m2 balcony. An extra bed would be a squeeze!
Superior rooms are farthest from the beach and have garden views while Deluxe rooms are slightly closer to the beach with sea views. Connecting rooms are only available in the Superior room category.
Bungalows come in pairs sharing a roof and are scattered around the gardens. They are also on the small side. The sea view bungalows have better features than the rooms in the building and are located on the edge of the beach, but there’s not much privacy.
All rooms are equipped with terra cotta tiles, air-conditioning and the usual standard facilities. Apart from the family category, bathrooms only have a shower.
The family rooms have two bedrooms and a separate small living room with two chairs. The master bedroom comes with a queen-size bed, a TV and an ensuite bathroom. The other room has twin beds, a TV and a bathroom shared with the living room.
There is a good range of facilities on offer and most, such as tennis and bicycles, are free of charge. There's a small playground for children, and the pool is comparatively large. Complimentary coffee and tea from 3pm to 3.30pm at the pool bar is a nice touch.
The Sea Breeze restaurant combines Vietnamese and Western cuisines with an emphasis on seafood. There's also a café serving coffee and ice cream.
The staff's manners and appearance have a local/Vietnamese touch, but the overall ambience of the resort is prosaic.
Nevertheless, the Saigon Muine Resort has plenty of room, a good beachfront and a friendly atmosphere. If you're looking for a conventional beach hotel and don't mind the ordered layout, it's worth consideration.
