Sapa Hotel***
Our brief comments:
The hotel's brochure is a masterpiece of hyperbole that heavily overstates its virtues. In reality, it's a new five-storey building in a pastiche of French colonial architecture facing a small lake in the centre of Sapa town. The accommodation is clean and straightforward - bland decor, plain furniture and shiny tiled ceramic floors.
There are two restaurants. The Cong Troi offers an eclectic mix of cakes, snacks, barbeque and beverages, and the Thac Bac provides breakfast, a la carte meals and set menus. Despite its name, the 'Blackjack' isn't a casino - it's a discotheque and bar for late evening entertainment.
Another unusual facility is a small indoor pool.
