Our brief comments:
The four-storey Hoa Sua hotel, officially named 'Baguette and Chocolat', was opened in is located in Cau May Street, up a small hill leading off the centre of Sapa town. It's a project managed by the famous Hoa Sua School based in Hanoi - a charity that recruits disadvantaged children and equips them with the skills necessary to enter employment in the catering and hospitality industry - read more about the project

The Hoa Sua is one of those places that defy easy classification. It's tiny, just four rooms without ensuite bathrooms and most of the other usual facilities and panoramic mountain views. Nevertheless, it possesses a charm that makes very early booking essential.

The training restaurants and Hoa Sua's other retail outlets are the 'finishing school' of the enterprise where the students put their skills into practice. The organisation's literature asks customers to make allowances for the trainees, but as the quality of cooking, catering and service is usually higher than all but the best restaurants, there's no need to worry about being guinea pigs.

We support the Hua Sua group and encourage our customers to do the same. Thanks to their efforts, many hundreds of childen have been plucked from the streets and given a worthwhile career. When you're in a restaurant or hotel somewhere in Vietnam, and come across a young person who excels in cooking, waiting or any other catering skill, ask where he or she trained - chances are you'll be talking to a Hoa Sua graduate!
