Auberge Hotel (local standard)

Our brief comments:
The Auberge is French-style hotel located in the centre of Sapa, one of the first private hotels in the town. Its entrance is an undistinguished door among a row of shops - it's easy to miss it altogether. Inside, a steep flight of stairs leads to a restaurant cum reception area.

The accommodation is a series of rooms in villa-style blocks straggling up the mountainside - this is not a hotel for anyone with limited mobility! The older rooms are about mid-way up, and are the better alternative. Most have French-style open wood-burning fires with chimneys - a boon in the chilly winter weather. The newer rooms lack the character of the original building and are higher up the mountain.

The Auberge Hotel offers 22 rooms with good views across the valley to Fansipan Mountain. There is also a bonsai and exotic flower garden. The restaurant serves breakfast and local specialities.
