Our brief comments:
The Evason is probably Vietnam's most exclusive hotel - ultra-luxury, ultra-stylish and ultra-expensive. That said, you get the best accommodation and facilities in the country set in 120ha (300 acres) of pristine scenery.
It's also one of Vietnam's most environmentally-conscious resorts and hotels read more
The smallest of the 53 private villas is a whopping 158m2 complete with wine cellar, outdoor plunge pool, in-house video, DCD player and movies available on request. At the other extreme, the Presidential Villa extends over 271m2 with two bedrooms, each with bathrooms, a living
room with a toilet, and open air dining room, and even a pantry! We haven't included it as we don't have enough room for the details!
We particularly liked the Spa Suites. Located high on the cliff, they are on three separate levels reached by short flights of wooden stairs. The lowest level is a 'day room' (or can be a second bedroom). Next is a bedroom with a stunning bathroom complete with a wooden bathtub and 'his and hers' washing areas in accordance with ying yang principles.
The third level is a personal spa room equipped for therapeutic treatments and massage, together with an open-air shower and swimming pool. All levels have magnificent views
Other villas are different combinations of floating terraces, sundecks, pool decks and verandas in addition to all the usual amenities expected in a top-flight hotel. Each villa has a minimum of a bedroom, a bathroom and a living room - some have an additional dining room and other configurations.
There's a first-class restaurant and bar, and a range of leisure pursuits including tennis, water sports and dive facilities, a gymnasium, and trekking and nature trails.
A pristine area of coral is within easy reach from the beach. It's ideal for snorkelling.
The Spa was still under construction when we were there, but it was obvious that it will be one of the best in Vietnam at the least.
Service standards in the resort are appropriate to the highest levels of luxury. For example, there are small shelters and resting places throughout the site where someone will be waiting with a cold drink and a cool flannel.
Meals can be served more or less anywhere - a cook and attendant will prepare and serve the meal in situ.
All villas are designed to be completely private. The resort treats this issue very seriously - taking photographs that include other guests is not allowed unless they give permission, for example.
Guests are encouraged to provide as much information about their likes and dislikes as possible so that everything is waiting for them on arrival, even to the extreme of their preferred room temperature.
Disabled people and guests in higher standard Villas are provided with a personal assistant. He or she will be on hand continuously to provide information, attend to chores, arrange meals or activities - in fact, anything requested. Guests with small children can also request this service.
Another innovative features include a wine 'cellar' (a cabinet maintained at the correct temperature) - guests can choose their own selection from a comprehensive range in the resort's 'cave' (the real McCoy!) - at additional cost, of course.
An espresso machine, a customised mini bar, and a DVD player are standard facilities (the resort is intending to provide guests with an I-Pod that can be loaded with their favourite music in advance of their arrival).
In addition, guests have full access to all the facilities of the Ana Mandara, located directly on the beach at the southern end of Tran Phu Boulevard in Nha Trang.
The staff's mission is that the guests' stay from their 'welcome' bottle of champagne to their departure should be perfect. The resort even operates on a different 'time zone', one hour ahead of the mainland to give the illusion of longer days.
This level of luxury is not cheap, but considering the quality of the service and facilities, it could be ideal for a honeymoon, an extra-special occasion or the holiday of a lifetime.
