Saigon Tourane Hotel***
Our brief comments:
The five-storey Saigon Tourane was converted into a hotel in 1975 and renovated under its present name in 1997: it's showing its age and the limitations of its original function as a block of flats.
The 82 rooms are spacious, and the beds are comfortable. The furniture is comparatively poor quality with nylon soft hangings and aluminium window frames.
The reception area and ground floor restaurant, a long, rather featureless, rectangular room, also suffer from the liberal use of aluminium, nylon, and basic furniture, appropriate in pre-tourism Vietnam in 1997, but now superseded by today's modern purpose-built hotels. The menu showed few signs of concessions to visitors from outside Asia - breakfast was predominately Vietnamese and the menu was limited.
The members of staff were helpful and friendly, and obviously keen to please. Hopefully, Danang's rapid development and the ensuing growth in business travel may prompt the holding company to invest in an upgrade.
