Pilgrimage Village Hotel****
Our brief comments:
 The Pilgrimage Village is an interesting and innovative venture. It's about 6km from the centre of Hue, and designed as a series of three-storey villas that will eventually contain fifty rooms. The style is modernised Vietnamese traditional architecture, and pleasing to the eye.
Visitors enter through an attractive garden with 'craft workshops' on each side. The reception is a large open-sided pavilion, redolent of the entrance to a pagoda. Beyond that are the rooms, pool and service buildings. 
At the time of our inspection, the hotel was in its 'soft opening' period - two more villas, a building to contain sauna and massage rooms, and karaoke, library and movie rooms were underway. The work is now completed and the hotel is fully operational
Rooms are very good. Liberal use of honey coloured wood, terra cotta tiles and a simple  modern design combine to create an uncluttered, comfortable feel. The terra cotta theme is carried through to an attractive bathroom with good quality fittings.
The large restaurant also has an air of simplicity and space: a light grey stone flagged floor and bare brick pillars supporting wooden beams carrying the ceiling. Immediately underneath, and partially below ground level, there is a large bar area.
Although it's outside the city, taxis are plentiful and cheap, so the Pilgrimage Village is certainly worth consideration. Our inspection team rated it highly: we're anticipating another visit in 2005 to see if it's lived up to its early promise.
