Our brief comments:
The Vinh Hung 1 is the origin of the family firm's expanding 'empire' in Hoi An. It's one of the Old Town's remarkable wooden buildings built by Chinese merchants well over a century ago and converted into a small hotel in 1994.
Inside, it's serious old Chinese in style. Dark wood, further blackened by the passing of the years, is everywhere, windows are small, and most furniture is antique. As a result, rooms are comparatively poorly-lit and feel somewhat crowded, despite their above average floor area. Both room and hotel facilities are very limited.
However, on the plus side, you don't often get a chance to stay in a classic building. In addition, prices are low, and visiting the Ancient Town is a matter of walking out of the door.
