Zephyr Hotel***
Our brief comments:
 The eight-storey Zephyr is an attractive new boutique hotel a few short steps from Hoan Kiem Lake, the heart of Hanoi. It's small, just 38 rooms in five categories, but has one of the most convenient locations in the city.
All rooms are well designed with high quality furniture and soft furnishings. The colour scheme is light and muted. The front elevation faces one of Hanoi's busiest roads: however, although windows are not double-glazed, the glass is thick enough to mute traffic noise to a low murmur, especially on the higher floors. All front facing rooms have a side view of the lake - those on the upper floors are cleverly angled to widen the sweep.
 Rooms at the back mostly overlook the attractive tiled roofs of nearby lower buildings. The top floor is taken by a large bar with good views on all sides.
The hotel has a small fitness room with three machines and a larger business centre nearby. All rooms have Internet access points with free ADSL (broadband) connection.
The reception area is a highlight of the hotel - spacious, modern and carefully understated with a well-designed small lobby bar.
 The restaurant is also on the ground floor, and is equally attractive. There's an impressive and innovative menu combining Asian and international cuisines, and a decent wine list. An unlimited breakfast menu (i.e. order as much as you want) is provided for less than 20 guests, and a buffet for larger numbers.
Although officially rated as a three-star establishment, we have placed it in our 'Superior' category and recommend for consideration as a well-designed comfortable hotel in one of the best locations in Hanoi.
