Quoc Hoa Hotel***
Our brief comments:
Built in 1991, completely remodelled a few years back and further renovated in 2010, the Quoc Hoa stands out among the few international hotels inside the Old Quarter. It is a 9 storey tower with 46 rooms, located on one of the '36 Streets' of Hanoi's ancient commercial centre, about a ten-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake.
The lobby is divided into two sections. On the left is reception, and on the right is La Rosa Cafe. The tour desk is at the front, and the business centre and lift at the rear.
On the upper floors, corridors are light and airy with good carpets.
Superior rooms are average size, but careful layout makes them look larger. The dark wood furniture and fittings, bed linen and soft furnishings are carefully coordinated and of good quality.
The Asian-style bed frames, bed linens and mattresses are also good quality. Single beds are large - two side by side make a double larger than King size. The bathrooms are marble, with separate bath and shower. There is a window, but the view is fully obscured by the next building a few metres away.
Deluxe rooms are similar, but larger and with the addition of a sofa and a partial street view. Family rooms are a larger version of Deluxe with a double and single bed.
The Suites, each with a King size four poster bed, have some additional space and a larger bathroom. Good city views can be had from the attractive balcony, equipped with table and chairs. Higher quality fixtures and fittings round off the package, with the addition of a small vanity table in an alcove.
La Dulce Vita Restaurant on the eighth floor offers a wide view from a large balcony. It serves the buffet breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner with a menu of Asian and Italian dishes. In the lobby, La Rosa Cafe has a full drinks menu, including cocktails.
On the top floor there's a unisex wet and dry sauna, and a large Jacuzzi – access to both of these is chargeable. In the front area is a small, quite basic 'fitness room' with a few machines. The views over the city are good, though.
Haivenu customers staying at Deluxe standard and above will benefit from fruit and flowers in the room.
The Quoc Hoa is a consistent highlight for most clients. Its location in the heart of one of Hanoi's best attractions and its excellent accommodation makes it worth serious consideration. The hotel's star rating is limited by its size, not its quality – we rate it higher than three star.
