Hotel Nikko Hanoi*****
Our brief comments: 
The sixteen-storey Nikko hotel is located outside the city centre about a five or ten-minute taxi ride from Hoan Kiem Lake.
It's an elegant building close to Lenin Park, Hanoi's largest public open space. There are good views over the park and Vietnam's famous Circus.
The Nikko caters mainly, but by no means exclusively, for Japanese business and leisure visitors. Its rooms and suites are well-appointed and sophisticated, combining Japanese style with contemporary  Vietnamese features.
Accommodation is spacious. Deluxe rooms are a generous 36 sq.m. Park View Deluxe rooms are substantially larger at 48 sq.m.
Executive rooms on the Nikko floor have separate shower cubicles and the Executive Suite is a comfortable 75 sq. m. All rooms have bay windows allowing for plenty of natural light.
 Each room is equipped with IDD telephone with modem outlet and high speed Internet connection, large working desk, individual temperature control, in-room safe deposit box, satellite television, in-room fitness machine, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and bathroom scales.
Inter-connecting rooms are available in Deluxe or Nikko floor rooms - these are ideal for families of four.
There are three restaurants - La Brasserie has an international menu, while the Tao Lai and  Benkay respectively offer Chinese and Japanese cuisines.
There is a well-appointed fitness centre and a small outdoor swimming pool with a jacuzzi.
The Nikko has much to commend it, particularly if you're an aficionado of Japanese style and cuisine. The generous room areas, high quality facilities and fixtures, and first-rate service easily outweighs the inconvenience of being outside the city centre.
