Guoman Hotel****
Our brief comments: 
The twelve-storey Guoman is located on one of Hanoi's wide tree-lined boulevards near the UN complex and about a fifteen-minute walk to the city centre. A rather undistinguished facade belies the well-designed interior.
The entrance lobby is stylish and attractive. lts 149 rooms have a comprehensive range of facilities and large bathrooms.
Decor, furniture, soft furnishings, beds and bedlinen are all good quality. Each room has a laptop port and dedicated power supply rather than the usual arrangement of a telephone socket and a two-pin socket on the other side of the room.
 The restaurant is pleasantly comfortable and offers both Vietnamese and international cuisines with the emphasis on the latter. The quality and quantity of breakfast has been praised by our customers.
The 'Helmsman' lounge has live music provided by a resident combo that's a cut above typical hotel 'wallpaper' music. There are two non-smoking floors, a rarity in Vietnam. Regular art exhibitions are another plus point.
Although the hotel lacks a swimming pool, guests can benefit from a good fitness centre and sauna.
 At present, large buildings are underconstruction on each side of the hotel - an office block on the left, and an apartment building on the right. It doesn't seem to be affecting customers' comfort, however.
We use the Guoman Hotel regularly: customer feedback is nearly always positive, particularly with regard to the quality of service provided. Minor gripes are the distance from the centre of the city and the limited Vietnamese ambiance.
However, if you're looking for a comfortable, well-equipped and well-run international hotel at a sensible price, you're unlikely to be disappointed.
