De Syloia Hotel****
Our brief comments:
 The De Syloia is a bijou hotel on one of Hanoi's leafy boulevards about a five-minute walk from the city centre. It's an eight-storey building tucked in on a narrow plot with a small reception area.
Rooms are well-equipped with good quality furniture, fixtures and fittings, and soft furnishings. All the usual facilities are there, apart from complimentary tea and coffee which is available on request without additional charge. Deluxe and Suite rooms have a spa bath.
Regular maintenance and upgrading is a priority at the De Syloia. At the time of inspection, the air conditioning system was being uprated, and full double glazing was being installed to counteract the noise from Hanoi's increasing traffic.
The De Syloia must hold the record for Vietnam's smallest fitness room! It's just about big enough for some morning exercise, but work-out addicts would be seriously disappointed.
The ground floor Cay Cau restaurant serves only Vietnamese cuisine, another unusual feature of the De Syloia. Apart from being the hotel's single restaurant, it opens to the front of the hotel and offers a highly-regarded menu that attracts large numbers of non-resident diners.
Feedback is remarkably positive, particularly with regard to the service provided. Customer satisfaction is uniformly high. Unsurprisingly, the hotel is extremely popular and regularly full for several months ahead. Consequently, early booking is essential!
