Heritage Hotel****
Our brief comments:
The well-established eight-storey Heritage Hotel is an unimaginative rectangular block halfway up a hill about 150m from Bai Chay beach in the tourist area of Ha Long City. It offers 101 rooms with views of Ha Long Bay. The lounge on the top floor provides a panorama of the World Heritage Area of the bay.
In common with most of Ha Long Bay's tourist hotels, the Heritage has fewer facilities than would be expected in equivalent establishments elsewhere.
There are two restaurants, one serving seafood and the other offering Vietnamese, Asian and international cuisine. Unusually, international and Asian breakfasts are served separately in the two locations. A central courtyard can be used for barbeques, but is too small to accommodate large numbers.
Deluxe rooms are a good size and comfortably furnished. Suites are well-designed for family, self-catering and long-stay customers, but public areas tend to be bland and rather uninviting. It's a popular venue for weddings and small conferences.
There's a night club adjacent to the hotel, opposite another building offering massage, steambaths and dry saunas at extra cost.
